摘要：
某些植物在開花時會產生腐屍或糞便般的臭味，一般認為這些味道是植物用來吸引蒼蠅或甲蟲類的昆蟲幫忙傳份，在這篇文章中作者提出了新的假說，他們認為這些味道除了吸引傳粉者還有別的功能：抵禦草食性動物的威脅。
心得：
這個主意聽起來很有道理，但仍需要一些實驗加以證實。更深入的一些想法是，吸引傳粉者與抵禦動物這兩個功能，在臭味剛演化出現時，哪一個是主要的功能？我覺得吸引傳粉者應該是最先出現的功用，而抵禦動物則是附加的功能。
