生長於亞馬遜的螞蟻樹(Hirtella physophora) 葉子基部有兩個葉子捲起的特別構造, 被樹棲性的螞蟻(Allomerus decemarticulatus) 利用為domatia。本篇作者利用比較一般葉片與此構造的蜜腺、氣孔、厚度、細胞形態等解剖構造, 證實此domatia為葉子與螞蟻共同演化後所特化出的特別構造 (secondary domatia), 而非葉子原本就具有的孔洞 (primary domatia)。
