Asparagus ocinalis L. (蘆筍)為雌雄異株的植物。其同型性染色體上有個M-locus區域，其功能為調控雌雄的性狀。本篇研究即為將蘆筍的性別決定區域選殖出來，及研究此區域的構造。作者更進一步推測Silene、木瓜以及蘆筍代表了XX、XY性別決定系統在演化上的三個階段。
