Mercurialis annua是一種大㦸科 (Euphorbiaceae)的植物,性別系統複雜,在歐洲大陸某些地區其族群是androdioecious的,但有些地區族群內卻沒有雄性植株存在。本文作者以人工種植的族群模擬不同的族群密度,證實族群密度如果越低,
M. annua自交比例就越高,這會使得雄株難以入侵密度低的兩性株族群,另外雄株比兩性株有更高的機率散播花粉,除了本身植物產生花粉的數量,作者認為花序的構造也會造成影響,因為M. annua是風媒傳粉的植物,雄株的花序是直立的,兩性株的花序是腋生的,這會讓雄花序散播花粉的能力較高。
